The Investment Banking Analyst role

Morgan Stanley summer analysts take on full-time analyst responsibilities: building models, analyzing comparative financial performance, drafting marketing memoranda and supporting M&A and financing execution. Training is division-specific, covering financial analysis, accounting and valuation. Candidates either interview directly with a group or join the New York Generalist pool, where group placement is handled in a structured process at onboarding.

Class size is not published. The New York Generalist program covers Consumer Retail, Financial Sponsors, Healthcare, Industrials, Media & Communications, M&A, Power & Energy, Technology and Transportation, with group placement during onboarding; FIG, Latin America, Private Capital Advisory, Real Estate, Corporate Separations, Shareholder Activism and several Houston, Menlo Park and San Francisco groups are direct-hire..

Worth knowing: Morgan Stanley’s US IB summer analyst application window ran January 1 to February 15, 2026 — about 17 months before the summer 2027 internship — and its posting states pay as $52.89 an hour rather than an annual figure.
