Microsoft Data Engineer jobs
Few titled data engineers — three reqs, all Senior and above — because most data work hides in SWE reqs.
The Senior Data Engineer role
Microsoft data engineers build and operate data platforms and pipelines for product telemetry, marketing, ads and finance, increasingly on Fabric, OneLake, Databricks/Spark and Azure Data Factory. Open DE-titled reqs are Senior and above and sit in AdTech and Global Marketing data teams. Mid-level data engineering work is typically posted as Software Engineer II, so a search on ‘data engineer’ alone understates the real demand.
Microsoft has a ‘Data Engineering’ career discipline with IC levels (third-party guides map L59–60 to DE I, L61–62 to DE II, L63–64 to Senior and L65–67 to Principal), but few reqs are open and much data engineering sits under Software Engineer titles; notable platforms are Microsoft Fabric and OneLake, Azure Synapse, Purview and AdTech clean-room infrastructure.

This is Senior, the only DE-titled level open; the mid-level equivalent, Software Engineer II (IC3) on the Global Marketing Data Engineering team, posts $102,100–$202,200. All-in: levels.fyi Microsoft ‘Data Engineer’ title, US, 25th–75th percentile (n=10, median $217k, spanning levels 62–64), Oct 2026 — a thin sample, so treat it as indicative.
