Software Engineer Interview Experience
Interview process
My overall interview process with Amazon was a positive experience. The process was well-structured, starting with an online assessment that tested problem-solving and coding skills, followed by technical and behavioral interviews. I appreciated that the interviewers were professional and gave me opportunities to explain my thought process, discuss my technical experience, and demonstrate my problem-solving approach. The technical questions were challenging but fair, and I enjoyed discussing my previous projects. One area that could have been improved was communication.

Interview tips
I would recommend practicing LeetCode-style coding problems, especially arrays, hash maps, trees, graphs, and dynamic programming. Being comfortable explaining your thought process, analyzing time and space complexity, and discussing tradeoffs is just as important as getting the correct solution. I would also suggest preparing behavioral examples using the STAR method and reviewing Amazon's Leadership Principles, since they play a major role in the interviews. Overall, practicing under timed conditions and being able to clearly communicate your approach would be the most helpful preparation.
Company culture
What stood out to me most about Amazon's culture was the emphasis on ownership, customer obsession, and delivering results. The engineers seemed highly focused on solving problems at scale while maintaining high standards for reliability and performance. I also appreciated the team's collaborative environment and willingness to discuss different technical approaches. It was clear that Amazon values engineers who are proactive, take initiative, and continuously look for ways to improve existing systems.
