## About SoFi and the PM role

SoFi grew from refinancing student loans into several business lines, including investing, cash management, credit-score monitoring, small-business financing, and a broader range of loan products. SoFi’s purpose is to help its members get their money right. [SoFi careers](https://www.sofi.com/careers/)

SoFi Product Managers come from technical and non-technical backgrounds. SoFi typically hires experienced PMs, although that may change as the startup grows. Openings target specific roles rather than a general PM position. For a role requiring technical depth—such as platform management—a technical background is useful.

As SoFi expands in fintech, it continues to hire product people across its product lines. This guide covers what candidates need to know when applying for a PM role at SoFi.

## Interview Process

The SoFi PM interview has **two stages**: a phone screen and the onsite.

### Phone Screen

If there is a good fit, a recruiter contacts the candidate for an initial **30- to 45-minute** phone conversation. The recruiter seeks to understand why the candidate is interested in SoFi and the specific PM role.

Use this conversation to show enthusiasm for the role. The recruiter also looks for cultural fit; candidates are directed to review SoFi’s [11 core values](https://www.sofi.com/blog/core-values/).

Candidates usually hear back within **at most one week** after the phone screen.

### On-Site

The onsite includes **four to seven employees**, ranging from product managers to engineers and business personnel. Each meeting lasts **45 minutes**; senior roles often involve more interviewers.

Questions cover:

- Behavioral topics.
- Product sense.
- Technical and data understanding.
- Ability to work with engineering.

Candidates typically hear back within **one week** after the onsite. Reference checks and other standard paperwork begin at that point. If the interviewed role is not the right fit, the candidate may have an additional conversation with a hiring manager about another SoFi role.

## Sample Interview Questions

The guide identifies three question types:

1. Behavioral questions.
2. Product-sense questions.
3. Engineering questions.

The detailed sample questions and later sections require membership.
