## About Atlassian and its product-management roles

Atlassian builds widely used team-collaboration tools, including the Jira issue tracker and Confluence wiki documentation tool. Product Managers at Atlassian work on products intended to facilitate growth and teamwork so teams can unleash their potential and do their best work.

Atlassian centers its business, product development, and brand around [five core values](https://www.atlassian.com/company/values):

- **Open company, no bullshit** — Information within Atlassian is open internally and shared.
- **Build with heart and balance** — Consider options fully and with care.
- **Don't #@!% the customer** — Happy customers are key.
- **Play, as a team** — Put what is right for the team first while ensuring that “work” does not feel like work.
- **Be the change you seek** — Continuous improvement is a shared responsibility, while action is independent.

Atlassian hires college new graduates through its APM program as well as experienced candidates for specific roles.

## Interview Stages

### Recruiter

The first call is roughly **20 minutes** with a recruiter. It is an opportunity to discuss the role and your familiarity with Atlassian, interest in the role, and past experiences. Specialized preparation is not expected because the conversation mainly concerns interest and fit.

After the recruiter call—and after the phone and on-site interviews—we say candidates can expect to hear back from the company within **a week or two**.

### Phone

Candidates have **one or two phone interviews** with Atlassian Product Managers. Each lasts **45 minutes to an hour** and includes one of the following types of questions:

- Product design
- Analytical
- Strategy

The phone questions are intended to reflect what candidates can expect in the on-site interview.

### Take-Home Assignment

Candidates may receive a take-home assignment, typically focused on product design or strategy. We recommend spending **no more than 3 hours** on it.

The deliverable may be a **PowerPoint presentation** or a **written document**, among other formats. The main goal is to assess analytical and strategy skills.

### On-site

Candidates may be invited on-site for **up to four hour-long interviews** with Atlassian product leaders. As in the phone round, the interviews assess analytical, strategy, and product-design skills.

## Sample Interview Questions

[Behavioral questions](https://www.aced.io/questions?role=pm&type=behavioral) are most commonly asked during the initial recruiter phone screen. They help the interviewer understand your motivations for applying to the Product Manager role, the context of your resume and past experiences, and why and how you made previous decisions.

The complete sample-question content is member-only.
